Grower's Cup Brews Fresh Coffee Anywhere

Moka-Pot espresso, cowboy coffee, and instant — I love them all, but sometimes I want a larger volume of java without occupying my only cook pot.

Grower's Cup Coffeebrewer, a hybrid between a filter dripmaker and a French press, is a great solution. Filled with a solid dose of pre-ground beans in five different roasts, it brews three cups of gourmet coffee anywhere.

The Coffeebrewer suspends the beans in a porous packet inside a flexible plastic pouch. Add a half-liter of hot water. A five- to six-minute steep releases aromatic lipids and acids, while effectively straining out the grit. No more drinking the French press through your teeth.

The coffee I sampled at Outdoor Retailer tasted smooth and bright, with less grit than my French press at home and more body than most commercial drip coffee. On the morning of a summit push, I would consider connecting the Coffeebrewer's bag directly to my hydration pouch hose.

The Grower's Cup Coffeebrewer was awarded in OutDoor Industry Award for design at last month's show in Germany.
