Another climbing movie: The Wildest Dream

If you've already seen Nord Wand (North Face) — which I highly recommend — and are wondering when another worthy climbing movie will come along, there is hope. The Wildest Dream, featuring a Burberry-clad Conrad Anker on a mountaineering quest, is coming to regular and IMAX theaters in the U.S. in August 2010.

The Wildest Dream is the story of the last days of adventurer and Mount Everest climber George Mallory — the man who may or may not have been the first to scale the world’s highest peak. After disappearing 800 feet from the summit in 1924, Mallory’s body was never found — until present-day climber Conrad Anker discovered it, frozen and intact, in 1999. Using replica 1920s-era clothing and equipment, Anker sets out to solve the great mystery of whether Mallory succeeded in summiting Everest before he died.

The movie is narrated by Liam Neeson and features the voices of Natasha Richardson, Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Dancy and Alan Rickman. You can read more about Anker and Leo Houlding's 2007 Everest climb with replica gear in our article "Burberry, Cashmere, and Silk: Climbing Everest in Vintage Style."
