Win Sierra Designs Tent and MSR Carbon Stakes

Help us give a deserving tent a new outdoor home. Win a Sierra Designs tent and MSR carbon stakes by sharing a gear review of your favorite (or least favorite) outdoor gear with the Trailspace community.

We’re giving away a slightly used Sierra Designs LT Strike 2 lightweight backpacking tent and a set of new MSR Carbon Core Stakes, "the lightest full-strength tent stake on the market," to one lucky gear reviewer.

To enter, and help this tent get back outside where it belongs: write a review now through Sunday, July 28, of your personally used outdoor gear:

That include gear for:

Please note: Our LT Strike is a slightly used 2011 model, which a Review Corps member used a few times before medical issues took him off the trail. The tent is in good condition though, and ready to get back out there with a new friend.

It weighs less than 4 lbs (trail weight: 3 lbs 6 oz) and has twin doors and vestibules (New MSRP was $389.95). We're also throwing in a set of new MSR Carbon Core Stakes (less than 6 grams each) to replace the originals (MSRP $27.95 for four).

Write your gear reviews now through Sunday, July 28, and you're entered to win. Each gear review you write counts as an entry*. You can write more than one review for additional entries.

In two weeks, on Monday, July 30, we'll randomly draw one lucky gear reviewer to give that Sierra Designs tent and the MSR carbon stakes a new home.

*Must be a registered Trailspace member (not guest) to win. Each valid outdoor gear review counts as an entry. Reviews must adhere to Trailspace's Review Rules and GuidelinesCommunity Rules and Guidelines and Terms of Service. See full Write-a-Review Giveaway rules.

Thanks, Rick.

An unused tent is a sad sight to us. We'd like to pass it on and get it back out there with a community member. It may not be brand-spanking new, but it's only been used a few times and is in good to very good shape.

Plus, you can get some brand new carbon tent stakes...

I watched the video. I am intrigued by those. I also like the twisty stakes(forgot the name.) My only worry with those is that if I would become somewhat dissoriented on one of my trips I may try to chomp into one thinking its a Twizzler. :)

I love Sierra Designs gear and want more so I've written what I consider to be a killer review- of the Alps Mountaineering Extreme 3 Outfitter.  Just one  wee quibble-no one will be able to find my review when they do a search (at least I could not) for gear. That is because I found out that Trailspace,.com only gives %100 support to gear from dealers associated (or monitored, I guess is the correct term) with Trailspace. Sigh, and I was hoping to make my way to fame and glory with my killer review.

Life goes on.

Hi, Raymonde. Thanks for sharing your review on Trailspace and joining our community. We appreciate your efforts and contributions.

I'm unsure what you mean that we do not support all gear and brands. We allow members to review any outdoor product from any brand. That includes products not already listed on our site (such as the ALPS Mountaineering Extreme 3 Outfitter you reviewed), as long as they are backcountry outdoor gear.

In fact, we routinely add new brands thanks to reviews or suggestions by our members. And when members review a product not already on the site, it's automatically added to the site.

Search results for a product or review are in no way influenced by whether or not a brand or product is included in affiliate links. (I just searched for "ALPS Mountaineering Extreme 3 Outfitter" on the site and got the product page followed by your review as the top results.)

All reviews are listed on Recent Reviewsproduct pages, and brand pages without any influence of whether the brand or product is included in affiliate links.

As time permits, we add images and product info for products recently reviewed on our site. Please keep in mind that manually adding images and product info is very time intensive. We have 70,000 outdoor products (and more added daily) and a very small staff of three people. With thousands and thousands of outdoor products available out there we'll never be able to cover every single product in the world, but we do keep the site as open as possible so members can share info on as many products as possible.

Our mission is to be the most comprehensive, accurate, and helpful community for finding and sharing facts and opinions about gear for human-powered, backcountry recreation.

We do as much as we can and do our best to add new brands and products manually. We welcome and appreciate the addition of all outdoor gear reviews by our members. Thanks for adding yours to the site.

I'll just deal with my main gripe and then let it go. I'll start by going back to exactly what happened before I bout the Extreme 3 Outfitter which is still made and available from the maker. I came to Trailspace.com to find a review, did not find one, went to other sites, found the review, found the dealers and left Trailspace.com. Meanwhile, I registered at Trailspace.com.

End of story

Now, when I come back here, I still can't find the review. Except that I know it is under my name so of course I can go there. But I don't have international rock star fame, so no one else can find the review.

end of that story.

Hi, Raymonde, I'm sorry you're disappointed with Trailspace, but glad you came back and shared your review of your tent with the community. Thank you!

I confess to being confused, since we feature your review in the same respective spots on the site that all other reviews appear, but want to acknowledge your concerns.

Individual reviews appear in:

  • the list of Recent Reviews (Newest is a straight chronological list of all reviews; Featured is a combo of the newest with ratings, and your review is currently #2 on that list; Top-Rated is all reviews by overall positive ratings, and your review with 2 upvotes currently appears at the bottom of the first page; and Killer Reviews, which chronologically lists reviews that have achieved Killer status — a few more upvotes and your review will appear on this list too);
  • on individual product pages (ex. ALPS Mountaineering Extreme 3 Outfitter product page, where your review is the top and only review for that product);
  • and on brand pages (ex. Alps Mountaineering, where you'll see a chronological list of "Recent ALPS Mountaineering Reviews" on the right, where your review is listed at the top as the most recent).
  • When I search for "ALPS Mountaineering Extreme 3 Outfitter" in the site's upper right search box I get the following results: 1) a link to the product page (with your review) and 2) a link to the product page mentioning "1 review Raymonde").

I'm not sure what I'm missing here or why you're unable to find your review on Trailspace. Are there specific suggestions you have to make the site better or to highlight reviews in other ways? We want to share as many reviews for as many outdoor products as possible with our community members, not hide any away from potential readers, like you.

The only time we sort reviews, besides Top-Rated  and Killer Reviews mentioned above, is on individual product pages for products that have multiple reviews and ratings, which isn't the case here. In that case, we sort reviews to put the most helpful ones for that product at the top, with the exception of brand new reviews, which get top-billing at first, so they aren't immediately buried below existing reviews that have been well rated.

Again, I'm glad you came and shared your well-done, informed review of your tent after noticing no one else had reviewed it. That's always a very welcome, and appreciated contribution. Please know that we do our best to get as many relevant outdoor products up on the site as possible, and to share all outdoor reviews by all members.

Finally, if you or other members have suggestions for highlighting reviews and content on the site, please share them here or in the Feedback forum. We do our best to address all concerns and comments. Thanks again.
