HornRimmedHiker Wins AAC Membership and Mountainsmith Pack

Mountainsmith Scream 25 Backpack with AAC Logo

Congratulations to community member and gear reviewer, HornRimmedHiker (aka Eric)! He wins an American Alpine Club membership and a Mountainsmith Mountainlight Scream 25 backpack for his backcountry adventures ($150 total value). Plus, we're sending him a Trailspace Trail Runner Cap to wear on his outdoor adventures.

HornRimmedHiker's review of his Light My Fire Spork ("biggest possible bang you will ever get for your buck") was selected randomly from the 137 outdoor gear reviews submitted since July 8.

An AAC membership provides great benefits like $5,000 in accident insurance, a $5,000 rescue benefit package, access to the AAC lodging network and AAC library, the American Alpine Journal, Accidents in North American Mountaineering, and more.

The Mountainsmith Mountainlight Scream 25 pack is a minimalist, top-loading rucksack with single compression strap and an AAC logo. It holds up to 20 pounds of gear and includes an internal hydration sleeve and mounting loops for tools and trekking poles.

HornRimmedHiker won an AAC membership and Mountainsmith pack for sharing his gear review.

Thanks to HornRimmedHiker and everyone who has shared reviews of his or her outdoor gear with their fellow Trailspace community members.

If you didn't win this time, stay tuned for our next write-a-review gear giveaway, starting later today.

(We will contact the winner via private message on Trailspace.com the day of the drawing. If the winner doesn't reply within six days, we'll draw a new winner.)

Thanks, fellas! Stoked about the new pack. Just bought my first one to make the transition from "UL Car Camping" into legitimate backpacking, and my girlfriend still needs one. Since packs are pricey, this spares us the expense and will allow us to both enjoy backpacking a lot sooner than expected! I'll be sure to give the pack a solid and thorough review, and moreover, I'll be wearing that TS cap on my first backpacking trip come August 3rd (with the TR to follow!). Thanks to TS and the community for warmly accepting me as a member. Honored and thankful, HRH (Eric)

Good job - I'm impressed that you could write so much about a spork! :-D

Again, thanks to all y'all. I write my reviews to contribute back to the community whose reviews have served me so well in my own gear decisions. Never wrote a single review with these contests in mind, and this comes as one of the most unexpected surprises in my lifetime.

The spork? It's a great piece of cutlery, and I admire the fact it's not only as financially accessible to beginners as it is to experienced backpackers, but also, is just as useful to both experience levels. You can't get Coleman prices on North Face features, but, with this utensil? You get both. It's a rare exception to the industry.

And elated to be able to gift this pack to my girlfriend and finally have her join me out on the trail. Times are tough, I'm a performing artist, and blessings like this make it possible for us to take trips and do things we wouldn't be able to, otherwise.

Definitely wearing my TS hat out on my first solo backpacking trip.

After that trip? Going to update some of my current reviews, and have some new ones to write after I put my newest-acquired gear to the test.

Today's been a good day.

Thank all y'all for it, and here's to many more.

Congratulations, HornRimmedHiker! It's nice to hear that you'll be able to put that pack to use with your girlfriend. I bet you'll learn a lot from the AAC as well.

Have fun on the trail!
