a motorized 23-footer? Gasp, shock!!
Backcountry Forum
Ed,
I am shocked and astounded that you would burn scarce commodities in a decadent ski inboard! I would have expected you to paddle a kayak or canoe out to the island.
Some ideas (see, if it were a canoe or kayak, you could just carry it up above the high tide mark) -
1. make sure you go there at high tide, and for the last hundred yards, gun it and slide on up the shoreline above the high tide mark (getting it back in the water is a problem, of course, as are rocky beaches)
2. carry a huge anchor, anchor the boat a bit off shore and wade/swim to and from.
3. carry a very long rope, get as high on the beach as possible (land at high tide, and leave at high tide), and tie the boat to a handy tree somewhere up on the island (hope there are no rodents that like to chew on ropes).
4. scuttle the boat, then use your bilge pump to empty it when time comes to leave (if that doesn't work, well, it's an environmentally abusive motorized ski poat, so it doesn't matter anyway).
5. Can the boat idea and just swim to the island.
6. have a buddy drop you at the island and then pick you up when you call him/her on your cell phone.
7. talk to your local boat shop and ask for real suggestions.
Oh, yeah, check the weather and make sure there are no hurricanes on the way.
