The wieght always depends on the location and weather conditions. I go to the high Sierra and pack for sub freezing temps, and chances of showers. Usually with fishing gear and just about everything most would carry base is about 6.5 Lbs. Sometimes lighter if I team up with someone. Thanks to the www you can really find good stuff and ideas to save wieght. Gosamar Gear sells a pack that wieghs less than 7 oz. saving many 5 Lbs. and probably is more comfortable too.
