Kelty V-2 Footprint

I'm told that the Kelty Vortex 2 tent can be used with just the footprint and the fly. Has anyone successfully done this? Without the tent, I don't see how the poles would stay in place.

Check the underside of the fly for velcro "snaps" that might be used to hold the poles in place.
