Just returned from a four day trip to Yosemite and the surrounding areas. Canoed on the Merced River in Yosemite Valley. The water was so low that we had to drag the canoe through several shallow spots, yet it was very beautiful and we were the only water craft on the river. Next day we were canoeing near Tuolomne Meadows when my wife fell backwards out of the canoe and swamped it - fortnately we were in two feet of water and had rubber canoe booties on.
The last night was on the shore of the Tuolomne River down at aboout 1,000 feet above sealevel - the dirt road cut downwards 2,000 feet in five miles to the river. After dark we were sitting in camp when I heard some rustling in the bushes. I turned on my night vision gear and there was a skunk about ten feet away with his tail straight up in the air. Without the NVG I would have probably done something to get sprayed!
