Superior Hiking Trail, MN

Hi, I am a new member here and was wondering if there was anyone out there who loves the Superior Hiking Trail as much as I do. I have been there several times and would love to hear about peoples trips. One of my favorite was when I camped on Lake Agnes, with the poplar river vally lookout nearby. Well, I guess I'll see if anyone has been there. Thanks.

I've day hiked and backpacker on the Superior Hiking Trail on numerous occasions. The area is a wonderful place to go, October being the perfect month.

I think I should probably mention that the website for the SHT is http://www.superiorhikingtrail.com/ . It is a good site that gives a lot of information. This trail is modeled after the AT and currently is 211 miles long. When completed it is intended to span from Duluth to Canada, some 300 miles.

Just a little more info for anyone who is wondering why the heck I started this post. I know this place isn't the Rockies, yet you don't have to live in the west to love hiking!

Well, no one said you could only hike in the Rockies. People here live in Maine (Dave and Alicia, owners of Trailspace, for example), Georgia (Ed G), Oregon (Jim S, and that's the Cascades), California (Tom D in SoCal and me in NCal), for a few places. I lived in Mississippi for a while, and there was great hiking in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama within a few hours drive (and great bicycling along the Natchez Trace). I have done some fun and scenic hikes in the Middle of America (Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri), which some folks think of as flat, dull, and boring (how wrong they are!) I grew up in the Arizona desert, which has incredibly beautiful places to hike (and, no, the Superstition Mountains of Lost Dutchman fame are not any more dangerous than any other place to hike, if you do the appropriate preparations as you would anyplace).

There is even hiking in Tejas in the Big Bend and in the Hill Country around Austin and San Antonio.

Gee, and I thought all you could do in Minnesota was paddle a canoe (also using the paddle to swat the mosquitoes) {8=>D

Hey, Boundary Waters is really fun canoeing, and you can just sit - no tired legs, no blisters on the feet.

I am glad you know what I mean. A lot of people think, "Wisconsin, Minnesota, do you guys camp in Cow Pastures?" But I have not yet failed to find amazing beauty in nature wherever I go. Thanks for the post.
