Astronomy observing from a tent

I want to be able to take my portable telescope with me for casual observing while camping or at star parties and enjoy the protection of a tent to reduce light pollution and break the wind.

I am aware of the Kendrick Observatory Tent but I am turned off by the very high price.

If anyone out there has a recommendation for something similar to the Kendrick OR that could be modified to get the same utility, I would greatly appreaciate it.

Very high price? The price quoted on their website is pretty reasonable for a tent of that size/sleeping capacity/etc. And besides, that's $500 Canadian dollars, not US (would be something like $350-400 US). The price goes up if you want the heavier duty poles. Only thing I can think of that would be cheaper is to just set the telescope up on its tripod outside and forget about a tent. Yeah, you wouldn't have wind and weather protection. You could pitch a tarp to cover or on one side to act as a windbreak. But without having actually used one, this looks pretty nice at a reasonable price. I have talked to a couple people in a local amateur astronomy club who got a couple and they like them a lot.
