North Face Jackets-What's the deal?

OK, All the ads I see here for North Face jackets have got me wondering-what's the deal with collecting them? I've got an old North Face mountain parka and there's nothing special about it. What am I missing here?

Perhaps TNF is trying to get people to retire their old jackets and purchase new ones ?

I don't get it either, but it seems to be a New York City fashion thing. I don't think many of these guys are climbing mountains in their North Face gear.

Ahh ... "retro-vintage-look" ... perhaps I should load the back of my saab with the contents of my closet and attempt to bolster my retirement fund! They'd go ga-ga for my worn and patched Sierra Designs 60/40 parka, probably near insane if I could find my Lowa's, RR's or Fabiano Madre 90's .... and those wool LL Bean Knickers from the 70's would be all the rage! (imagine the pose - right in front of Tiffanys - Lowa Alpspitz boots, orange socks, grey wool knickers, wool turtleneck sweater, dashing ugly parka wielding a long/wood shafted ice axe) .... well ... the ice axe might get me arrested ... but what a wonderful fashion statement ... scaling the peaks of Manhattan ...
