Hallux Limitus update...

I took the expensive orthotics that I got back in May back to the Podiatrist this morning. Told him they haven't helped any. He took them and is sending them back to the lab to make a modification to see if it helps. He told me if the modified orthotic doesn't correct the problem, the only other option is surgery =(

Re: Hallux Limitus update...

ugh! So sorry to hear that. Have you thought of trying accupuncture? I have done it to my bad foot, (and both feet have it) it really helped.

I too, may eventually have to face surgery. Do you have to have one or both done? If you need both, will you do them simultaneously?

Best of luck to you and your feet...

I've never thought about accupuncture before. Can that help structural bone problems such as mine though? The condition exists in both feet..

Re: Hallux Limitus update...

Another update - After searching around on the net for a few hours, I came across some possible alternatives to surgery:

1. There's a guy in New Zealand who is healing people that have hallux rigidus (the worse version of what I have) by manipulation and massage. See video:

2. This product seems to have great reviews on youtube. I've seen something like it before on another site. It's basically just a plate that keeps your big toe joint from moving: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyo1r3T25oY As I understood it before, this was for people who have already reached the Rigidus stage, but he says hallux limitus in the video too...

Re: Hallux Limitus update...

The youtube sounds intriguing; I will have to check it out. The acupuncture helps deal with the nerve/pain part of it. I was able to backpack the last two summers because of it. It does not help with the structure. I DO have inserts, and I bought Danner boots (I have to have them stretched a little).

Post results if you do anything new!

God Speed!
