Sad news - Galen Rowell dies in plane crash

Galen Rowell and his wife Barbara were killed in a small plane crash yesterday. The plane was an Aero Commander. The crash was on final approach to the Bishop (CA) airport.

Galen was a great photographer, sometimes said to be the Ansel Adams of color photography of mountains and other wild areas. He was also a great climber, with many first ascents to his credit. He climbed not only in Yosemite Valley and the Sierra backcountry, but many other ranges around the world.

He will be sorely missed, but his images will live forever.
