Mt St Helens
Anyone climb it recently? I have a permit to go May 25, 2003 and am looking for updated conditions.
Thx.

Re: Mt St Helens
I hiked it a year ago in June and had tons of snow. There should be lots now. I highly recommend the trash bag glissade as the method of getting down.

Our party of 8 climbed on Sunday, May 25. We arrived Sat., hiked up 1000 ft to the tree line and camped. Sunday for the climb the weather was changing - mostly windy, cold, and in the midst of clouds on the way up. Once at the top we had a clear view of the crater, and a fairly good view to the east. Fantastic! Glissaded back down to our tents - 3 hours up took only 30 minutes back down! Those after us may have had some sun and clearings - it was hard to tell. All in all, a great trip. I'd do it again, but only on the snow with the option to glissade/ski down.
