This thread is for comments on the article "Black Diamond Sprinter headlamp for light, fast, local runs"

The Black Diamond Sprinter headlamp is all about light, fast and local. The 75-lumen light might be your pick for your next two-hour trail run or quick skin up a local peak.

Not sure about "new for spring."  I have been using one of these for over a year now. Might check the facts on that one.

Glad to see that the MRSP has come down a little (I paid about $10 more for mine when they first came out).  It really is a great running headlight.  Well-balanced, great beam, and simple configuration.  I forget that it is on my head (aside from the apparent addition of light to my general area).

At any rate, a really great lamp for runners.

Cleric's right. Thanks for pointing that out. It was my error. I'll update the article to reflect that info.

Cleric, I hope you'll write a review of the Sprinter to tell us how it's worked out for you so far:

To echo Alicia: thanks Cleric!

Thanks to your question, I got in touch with a Black Diamond Representative who clarified that this light has been "has been redesigned/changed to such a degree that it is considered as a new offering for Spring." I will give them that the light may have been redesigned (they didn't specify exactly what changes had been made), but it doesn't seem to follow that because of these revisions the light is an entirely new one.

Alicia - my backlog for reviews is embarrassingly long.  I will try to get to more here in the near future!

Seth - Being an owner of the older version, I would be very interested to hear all of improvements they have made on it.  If you can poke them a bit and find out... :)

From just looking at the pictures, they redid how the power cord passes from the battery pack to the lamp.  On older versions, it ran through a stitched sleeve in the band.  NOT conducive to cleaning.  Now, it simply goes through a rubberized clip.  I would LOVE to have that update.

Description on BD's site says that the new model charges through a USB port.  They must have done away with the proprietary charging cradle.  The USB would add convenience, but the cradle wasn't bad.

Maybe the band is a bit thinner.

Other than that... I can't see anything.  Maybe internal changes?  I'd have to agree with you that it seems a bit much to call it a "new" model of any kind.

I've contacted Black Diamond and done a bit of research and uncovered a few differences:

Price: The MSRP of this new version is $69.95, while the MSRP of the previous version was $79.95

Lumens: The new version throws 75 lumens, while the previous version threw 68.

Max Distance: The new version illuminates 45 meters, while the previous version illuminated 50. (Note the reduction!)

Max Burn Time: The new version burns for 42 hours, while the previous version burned 64. (Note the reduction!)

Thanks for asking Cleric!

More lumens=less light?

I suppose its do to the pattern of the projected beam?
