This is a great gps that has everything I'm looking for in a gps. I have the 500 great for beginners and geo-cachers. I do K 9 search and rescue and this is the exact one I'm looking for from Magellan with everything it has to offer and will help enormously out in the wilderness. In my books and writings about gps's This is the one! Anyone that is able to get this one please do it has everything you need. Consider yourself lucky

I was at search and rescue today, took out my old 500 Magellan and found that it has a few more times of use. The past few weeks I was looking into a new Magellan that my K-9 search and rescue friends highly recommended the Explorist 610 GPS receiver. I asked why and their response were (and I have to say most of them if not all said):
- maps use a shaded relief, look nice and give an intuitive impression of the terrain
-
construction feels durable, could probably take a few drops without breaking
-
touch screen is responsive, don't need to select anything twice
-
display is bright and readable in direct sunlight
Went to Rei and looked at one and have to say that I was enchanted by the construction and how it feels in my hand.
Being in Search and Rescue you are responsible for having the right equipment and as good as you can get. I think that Explorist 610 GPS receiver would be the one to get.. You just don't want to get out into the wilderness without one.
