A buddy of mine (www.grahamslongwalk.com) hiked part of the AT this summer to raise money for Autism awareness. He took a Spot with him, and I must say is was pretty cool to be able to keep track of his progress. When he was testing it out at home in Denver before he began his journey I zoomed in on the satellite view and could tell that he was in his living room in the back corner of the house when he sent the test message out. For someone hiking alone this is your insurance policy and some piece of mind for your mom.
