This thread is for comments on the article "How to Recycle Old Outdoor Gear"

Depending on who you're talking to, today is either America Recycles Day or Zero Waste Day. If you can't donate or pass on old backcountry gear, what are your recycling options once your gear reaches the end of its trail life? Here are a few.

Lekis are 96% Aluminum and after many long hard miles,

usually thousands, they are recyclable.

Oh, our Czechosovachian factory is Green. No emissions, no hazardous waste, recycle everything. 8)

Recycling is good, but reuse is better.

I kicked the fuel canister and went back to white gas.

Skis are tough, PT. I don't know of anywhere that actually can break them down and recycle them. And most swap meets will only take fairly new ones.

However, this place might be right up your alley:

Green Mountain Ski Furniture in Waterbury Center, Vermont. They accept skis and snowboards to make into chairs, benches, and other products.

I give my old climbing ropes to a guy who volunteers for a program that tracks birds. They use the ropes to climb the trees.  Surely there are similar programs...
