boot care

sorry i know this has been covered before but i have an 18month old who takes up a lot of my time and impairs my ability to search and read all of the post. i recently, like today got a free pair of rei monarch II leather gtx boots.i don't have any paperwork or care instructions, i need suggestions on the best way to break them in cleaning and water proofing. thanks!
