this guy has some very interesting points about waterproofs, that I tent to agree with. Not many of us are actually out in real rain anyway.
A side note, the guys who go to PNG (Papua New Guinea) to walk the Kokoda trail don't take waterproofs, it rains too much, and is warm, so all they do is have a change of clothes for night, then in the morning put on their wet clothes again...
