REI Dividends are on the way. What are you planning to buy?

If you're an REI member*, you're probably aware that your REI dividends are on their way.

What are folks planning to buy with their dividends? Is anyone due for a large dividend?

*For non-members: REI is co-op that returns a portion of its members purchases to members in the form of a dividend check annually.

Already spent mine on a Petzt Tikka headlamp.  It just showed up.  Very impressive light.  Will review after I use it in the field.

My divedend was smaller this year; I shop around on Mountaingear and Amazon a lot more now.

REWARDS20 code on your order gets you a 20% discount on one item in your order.

This is a tuff time for me, REI is a dangerous place. Im kinda bad about being an impulse buyer on things. Ive learned to have some good self control on most things, but going into REI........well that all goes out the window!!

Ive got $120 dividend coming so Im trying to decide what do I "really" need? Of course the answer to that is "everything"  LOL

I'll probably get some new  rain gear or kick it in on some new boots.

Already spent my rebate: along with the 20% coupon, I bought an MSR Whisperlite International stove.  Out of pocket was $25.  I have it set up for kerosene since that is what was in my MSR Fuel bottle but I plan to try it on CF.  The only thing that seems a bit klugy is the fact that the stove will not sit flat because of the twist in the fuel line.  It sits flat when you put a pot on it though.

Rhino, thats a huge dividend!  Your gear closet must be about full.

My wife grumbled about my $17 one.

One can always use more gear!  I had help building this years dividend, my sister (who does zero hiking) took a liking to the clothes they carry at REI. So when ever I would mention I wanted to go she would tag along or vise versa. She never got her own membership so used my card. Worked out good for me thats for sure.

But now the big problem, So much gear but only so much dividend.  :) & :(

I didnt buy anything new last year, but used to always buy stove fuel and flashlights with my dividends. I have been a REI member since 1978.

So far I bought a pair of hiking pants.  Only have $398 this year so I have to be careful how I spend it.  :-)

I usually average about $30. Was in 2006 the last time I bought new gear anywhere.

(Silly) Question: What percentage do members get back?

The standard dividend is 10% for non-discounted items. US Bank has a marketing arrangement with a Visa card that pays back 5% and 1% more on REI and non-REI purchases, respectively.

Don't forget that the dividend applies to retail prices despite standard markup from wholesale. If you wait long enough you can request a check instead.

A share costs $20 and lasts for life.

(Sorry to ramble.... There's one dangerously close to my house.)

A very dangerous place indeed….

My dividend is 48 clams and change this year, plus I spent over a hundred smackers on stuff that didn’t count towards my dividend.

I remember several pairs of new socks for my wife and I…There is that new Thermarest…Some silk long johns for her and polypro for me, but that was half off, the Black Friday sale they had, honest!

I honestly can’t say what I spent all that coin on to get such a big dividend this year!

Haven’t a clue what to spend it on yet.

My favorite time to hit REI is when they have a side walk sales though!

I paw through every single pair of boots available to find something that fits, and wear ‘em till they are down right ragged…

I had $550 last year!  I put all my business expenses on my REI Visa.  I get 1% back in dividend money.  :-)
