Boot advice needed.

Having trouble finding comfortable well fitting boots for backpacking and need some advice/suggestions.

The boots I've tried thus far taper too much in the toe, even in wide sizes. In the past I've ended up having to buy boots that are too long in order to avoid having my toes squeezed. Currently wearing Asolo fsn95's that I really like, but I had to go up in sizes too much and they feel awkward.  I'd really like to find a good fitting boot.

I don't live near any large outdoor stores where I can try on tons of boots, but my local outfitter says he will order in a few ones for me to try if I tell him what I want. Any brands you can suggest that generally have a wide toe box? Waterproof is must. Gortex preferred.

Suggestions appreciated.
