soft shell vs. hard shell snowpants.

I don't have any experience with soft-shell pants. I am very attracted to their breathability.

I will mainly be using these to snowshoe through calf-deep snow. If I use soft-shell pants, will they get soaked? My current hard shell pants seem to get hot so quickly.

Specifically, I'm looking at Patagonia's Super Guide soft shell pants.
