Anyone have experience with Six Moon Designs??
I'm looking at the Lunar Solo by Six Moon Designs for an 09 AT thru-hike. However, I can't find much in the way of reviews on it. I have found a few, but none give a full overview like you find here on trailspace. So I was hoping that if anyone out there has experience with this manufacturer you could perhaps fill me in... Thanks.

Ask this question over on The Lightweight Backpacker website forums. A number of members there have SMD gear or have used it. Also look on Backpackgeartest-there are several test reviews there.

I'm not sure about the at but folks on the pct forum are light weight folks and it's home to the super ultra-lightweight. If you're really interested in one of Ron's tents and/or other ultra lightweight gear, it would pay to sign on board: pct-l-request@mailman.backcountry.net They are kind of a weird bunch but you'll learn more than you'd imagine - yes, as a pct'er, I'm partial! I'm probably one of the weird ones, too :)
are we there yet
P.S. My first post...how'd I do?

Ya done good, are we there yet. Yeah, PCTers are weird, but ATers are weirder (having spent time on both).
Speaking of through-hikers, I was in Antarctica last month when Jardine and his wife came through on their way to the South Pole. Ultralight in Antarctica???? Their packs were a bit more than 10 pounds

I assume they were pulling sleds? Ultralite in the winter is great until you get storm bound and the temps drop really far.

Ray has a whole series of stories about his trip posted on his website http://www.rayjardine.com It sounds like he had a lot of support from his guide/expediton support service in the way of shelter, food, transportation, etc. so he wasn't just wandering around with a little pack.

Jardine
Probably ought to put this in a new thread, but ....
Yes, Jardine and his wife did have a lot of support from Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions (ALE, of which ANI, Adventure Network International, is a part, having been taken over by ALE a while back). But that is really the only practical way to do expeditions in Antarctica.
On Jan 12's installment, Jardine mentions borrowing Sam Silverstein's boots (size 13). Sam was one of the original first ascent party on Vinson, and a member of our party. That took place at the end of our sojourn, as we were about to board the Ilyushin. Jardine also mentions Vern Tejas. Vern and his group from Alpine Ascents International came in on the Ilyushin flight that we headed back to Punta Arenas on. When Dave gets my photos up, you will see photos of these folks.
