metal detector

anyone know of a good metal detector that is light weight and compact enough to throw in a backpack?

Good question, Ed. I know some geocachers around here carry metal detectors with them on fairly long dayhikes. I will see if any of them have a recommendation (a lot of them are not exactly in good enough shape to be carrying heavy loads, so they must have found something fairly light and compact).

I bought one from radio shack years ago - you can remove the un-needed parts
