Funny how this always happens when I start my journey to research something, but I've started the simple search to find a nice summer bag that is light, compact and cheap, and instead have started considering a high end down bag.
All the reviews of nearly all of the MontBell super stretch bags are all excellent, so I have no doubts about the quality of MontBell bags. In fact, it's hard to believe they are really as good as every one says.
Temperature rating was alway a concern for me, as I was looking for small packed size, but with down, lower ratings are not necessarily equivalent to significantly smaller pack size, meaning they are mostly small already. So now I'm considering anything rated zero or above in down. I'll just not sleep in it in warm weather, but ly on top with a sheet or something.
So far, I think it all makes sense (except for maybe sleeping on a hot bag in summer - maybe lighter and inside is more comfortable). And now the real question for anyone who has experience to talk about it:
If I get a low temperature bag, and use it mostly year round, will I regret the decision? And to beat all, MontBell makes an ultra light version. It appears this is just missing the second baffle. Would I miss the second one in cold weather?
Will I regret the MontBell SS (perhaps #2) in either UL or non-UL version. Are they worth the money?
Thanks,
Steve
