camp kitchens
Does anyone have any designs or ideas on a storage box that would hold all your cooking utensils, spices, pans, etc. I carry my stuff in plastic totes, but they are hard to keep organized. I would like to have or make something that I can keep all this stuff in, keep it dry and animal proof, and grab when we are going camping!

Re: camp kitchens
Sounds like you want something for car camping, or (from your name) for rafting trips (would be too big for kayaks and maybe even canoes). I recall from some recent Outdoor Retailer Shows that there are a couple companies making something intended for rafting trips. I work with Boy Scouts a lot, and the troops that do a lot of rafting or even car camping and horsepacking have some more or less traditional camp box designs. Basically, these are just a box with cubbies in them the size of nested pots, nested dishes, nested cups, etc, that have a lid/door that locks closed for transport (think of a large egg crate, but with various sized "eggs" or the old milk crates). Some of these have removable legs, and the door folds down to form a preparation shelf. You can find plans for these on the web under the names "grub box", "chuck box" (after the western chuckwagons), and so on. They have been made in all sorts of sizes, so you could scale it to your needs. If you go to your local Boy Scout Council store, you will find books with plans for these as well. Not something you would want to backpack, but for rafting or car camping, they are fine.
