I'm a sucker for cool gadgets. Has anyone tried the new Flow Meter by Camelback yet?

No Reviews (yet):

Great vid on it on the blog:

Really interested in hearing if it performs as promised and if anyone has found it beneficial to training or travel.

Great question! We actually just had someone test it out this month. I'll try to get the review up on the site this week.

Anyone else who's had the chance to test it out should share their experience and write a review too: http://www.trailspace.com/gear/camelbak/flow-meter/

How does it work? From the pictures it seems to connect somewhere along the drinking tube. It seems as if it would be incompatible with the tube insulator they offer, and include in some of their hydration pack configurations.

You're correct that it does not work with a tube insulator. I believe it's designed for three-season use anyway; there is a minimum temperature at which it's recommended to use (I think in the 30s).

You can buy it already installed as part of a reservoir, or buy it separately, which CamelBak tells me is how most people do it. Then you splice the reservoir's tubing to install it so the water passes through the gauge.

I asked CamelBak about it at OR and it seems to be most popular with the gear junkies, who like gadgets, and those who are really interested in numbers and weight (like mountain bikers and other cyclists who use it for training and racing).

We expected our review to be up last month, but had some further questions about the add-on versus the pre-installed version and wanted to be more comprehensive with what we published. It will be up in early February though. Promise.
