Re: Into The Wild

Actually, the author of the book tried to make his death out to be something other than what the official record states. There was and still is no evidence that he ate something poisonous, toxicology reports proved it. He starved to death plain and simple.
I don't think he was an idiot with a death wish, I just think he was a victim of an incredibly stupid mistake. He should of had a map. According to the book, he wasn't even that far from the highway.
His second problem was he took the wrong supplies. He was eating lean meat and rice. Thats what you eat to loose weight. Had he taken dozens of candy bars he might of lived.
I think the author tried to make his death into something other than just simple starvation, becuase to many of us, that makes him look like a dumbass. I would of started walking in any direction. The author states that the river was higher than he expected. Why then didn't he try to hike around it, or follow it? HE went back to the bus why? Shelter? It was the warm season though. He would of been better off coming up with a way around that river.
Me and a hunting buddy got lost in Jefferson once, so we just walked out of the park by heading east. Took forever it seemed like, but we eventually came to a road.
