BlackBerry

Ok so I’m an admitted Blackberry (CrackBerry) addict, and I am wondering if there are any other Trailspace members that are Blackberry users.

Re: BlackBerry

I carry a Blackberry on the Verizon network. It serves its purpose well. I especially like access to the internet, Twitter (same user name), text messaging, and the camera.

Re: BlackBerry

my brother is a Crack addict. ...I mean Crackberry addict. haha. He gets a lot of work emails, handles craigslist and ebay postings, and its second to asking for directions when we're lost(its second because us + roadmaps never work out).

I have the Casio G'zone on the other hand. waterproof up to 1 meter, shock, dust, and vibration resistant, and it has a nifty flashlight feature. I am a bit rough so durability is top priority for me.

Re: BlackBerry

I am a member of crackberry.

Sadly, my BlackBerry died when I fell off a narrow wooden boat in the South China Sea. I was hoping that travel insurance will cover it, but I have no purchase receipt!

This is an image of the day my BlackBerry drowned.. *sniff*

That really stinks, but its a small price to pay when your a world traveler. Just kidding I don't know what I would do if my BB fell overboard.

Re: BlackBerry

haha hey gary I used to have a tracfone! those things lose reception when the roof you're standing under is over 1 inch thick. but you can throw it out a 3 story window and it will exhibit nothing but battle scars. very tough machines... may I suggest a jitterbug? :)

Re: BlackBerry

20 or 30 years from now, people will still be argueing over whether bringing a Blackberry, GPS, or even a cell phone is somehow "right" or "wrong" when enjoying the great outdoors. Somehow technology of the electronic kind seems not quite appropriate while on the AT or the PCT, but why?

A compass is technology and is on nearly every "10 essentials" list. An LED flashlight is technology too. Certainly everyone's carrying those by now.

But what's different about the Blackberry/GPS/cell phone etc.? They are not needed and they connect you to something that is not in the immediate area, but is that really a bad thing?

Re: BlackBerry

that technology on the trail arguement will always exist, and it will always be a grey area. I bet when the compass was invented (we're going wayyyy back here) people who used "north star" were calling these people all sorts of names that we would find quite humorous today.

Note just because you have it doesn't mean you have to use it or be on. Kind of like a PLB. You have your opinion and I have mine Just like the 10 Essentials list I don't bring all of that I feel some of that stuff pointless for me. Of course the 10 Essentials is different depending on where you read it, the area you are in, the time of year, whom you will be with, how long you will be and yada yada yada.

Kmarr does have a point

Re: BlackBerry

Mike068, totally agree.

I think in the end, safety will be the driver of what is carried. A PLB is a good example. Perhaps someday everyone who "goes out" will carry one or something like it.

Carrying a Blackberry tho', is as you say a personal choice.
