$19 hotel room at Rancho Bernardo Inn

Got a great kic out of this:

TESS VIGELAND: Lots of folks are doing whatever possible to save some cash in this recession. Cutting expenses is a good way to do it. Pass on that expensive meal. Opt for a used car instead of one off the showroom floor.

When you're on vacation, forgo a comfy bed and sleep on the hotel floor. Wait, what? Yes, that's the frill-free package awaiting some guests at a San Diego resort. No bed. No toilet paper. All for 19 bucks a night.

Our intrepid Cash Peters booked a room and lived, if you can call it that, to tell about it.

I remember hearing this story on the radio ... I'm not sure how accurate the radio personality was, but the radio personality mentioned that a campsite in the same area ran for about $19 a nite and atleast had an outhouse with tp in it.

So there is a bathroom, but you supply the TP, towels etc?

Inflatable bed as well, or just sleep in a bag?

Personally, I can sleep on plywood with no padding, I do it all the time at work with a little piece of Styrofoam for a pillow. The more you do it the tougher you get. Of course I know some people have back trouble and so forth.

Yep! you can get used to anything!

I think North America can use a little bit more of this travel style. I worked in a campground in Banff this summer and the size of the rigs pulling in was just ridiculous. Who needs a 42 feet converted bus with a 12 feet trailer in the back?!?

Mexico style yo! Sleep on the balcony for 20 pesos, save the rest for booze and tacos.
