...my good friend and mentor passed away today.

Paddling one of his favorite spots in one of his canoes took on a special meaning this afternoon.

I am sorry for your loss, and the loss to all canoeists. I met Ralph in the mid 1990s at his shop.  I loved the Canadienne design and all of his historical work.  He will be missed.

Thank you. Yes, truly a loss for us all ppine. No doubt there are more but it's so nice to know that someone else here has had the pleasure of his company. If you are ever in the Chicago area again, be sure to get in touch with me and we'll take out one of Ralph's Canadiennes for a paddle through town and on the part of the Chicago River which had been named for him antemortem (while he was alive).
