Lake Aloha, not in Hawaii, but in the Desolation Wilderness near Lake Tahoe in California. This picture was taken early in the morning while all was still.

The Tahoe Rim Trail is spectacularly beautiful, especially when you get into the Desolation Wilderness. The weather is just impeccable too.

Interesting calmness. Lake Aloha (a.k.a. Medley Lakes) is actually a reservoir, predating and grandfathered into the wilderness, that serves as part of the water supply for the El Dorado Irrigation District. It was formerly a facility of Pacific Gas and electric Company but EID acquired it in 1999 for $1 along with a few other reservoirs in the upper watershed of the South Fork American River and Echo Lake in the Tahoe Basin. The photo works on several levels: water supply, historical reservoir, wilderness, weekend destination, and highlight on the Pacific Crest Trail. A few years ago EID workers helicoptered into the lake during September to update the dam.
