Here is my Trailspace pint glass filled with Mammoth Brewing CO Golden Trout Pilsner in Mammoth Lakes, CA, at the Hilltop Hot Tub. Nice little Monday :) Sadly though, the wind was blowing and  dumped the entire glass into the hot tub immediately after this shot. FAIL.

IMG_2152.jpg

In between our big hikes to the summits of El Capitan and Half Dome, we ventured over to Mammoth Lakes and hit up the hot tubs!

This is taken on the Camino between Fisterra and Muxia in Galicia, Spain. My sister and I walked for five days up the Costa da Morte. It was absolutely beautiful.

Trailspace caps aren't just for the trail, lol :).  This was with some racing friends at an autocross event here in the Bay Area today.  I even got to ride along for a good adrenaline rush (though the TS cap was replaced by a helmet for that part.) :)

Today I went for an 11 km (distance) 750m (elevation gain) road run up into Vengedalen, followed by a little hike up the valley wall to a viewpoint on the ridge below Romsdalshorn -- straight across Romsdalen to the legendary Troll Wall. Here's a selfie of me and the wall at the day's high point. Trailspace strikes again!

It's past time for me to share some Trailspace sticker and hat pics of my own.

So here are two from the end of April, skinning up Saddleback Mountain here in Maine with our family, including the 4- and 8-year-old (not pictured, though they do have Trailspace stickers on their helmets).

Here's me sporting the TS cap at the end of a weekend overnighter into the Hoover Wilderness in the Sonora Pass area in the Sierra.  That's the West Walker River in the background.

Oh, and those are my new, very plain, black Dirty Girl gaiters :).

The River-to-River Trail starts at the Ohio River in Elizabethtown, IL. It ends 160-miles later at the Mississippi River in Grand Tower, IL.

After following the road north out of E'town for about .5 miles, you come to the first R2R blaze. The blaze directs you off the main road onto a dirt farm-lane. One mile later, you enter the Shawnee National Forest.

March 2013, MuhKeeTa & I did half the trail, from E'town to Goddard Crossing. We hope to do the second half next year.

They're a bit hard to see clearly in this (no tripod, "sit the camera on a rock") shot, but there's a Trailspace Cap and a Trailspace Sticker (on the water bottle) :).

This is from dinnertime on a weekend backpacking trip this weekend to Smith Peak in Yosemite.    I had a great site right on top with magnificent vistas all around!  It was a great trip, notwithstanding the large rodent which kept waking me up all night trying to steal my stuff.

Usually I hang everything "stealable" from a tree (or bring it into my tent) to prevent such thievery, but didn't this time for several items I suspected to be laced with poison oak, as I didn't want to handle them, and certainly didn't want them in the tent.  In the end, the rodent got a prize of one gaiter (I looked and looked but never found it).  But I rescued my shoes & trekking poles before they disappeared too...

And I even got to try out the micro spikes I bought this winter, but hadn't had a chance to try yet, climbing up the snow slope on the summit cone.

I did place a trailspace sticker on a BAA poster near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

I doubt it is still there.

Another trip a short walk over snow from home.  Another snow camping trip, many open areas without snow.  Spanish Peak over my right shoulder.  If you've done the PCT, you might remember it.

This was on the trail toward Alta Peak in Sequoia National Park, a couple miles from the peak.  I turned around because I ran out of time (and because the trail crossed a steep slope, and I saw a couple mini avalance snowballs, or at least that's what I imagined they were).  I'm lacking in experience in winter conditions to make me comfortable crossing such a spot, especially when solo, and especially on a trail with no fresh tracks (so I am confident there wasn't anyone for at least a couple miles in any direction).

Anyway it was a most excellent hike.  I was in the fog and clouds hiking up to the ridge at Panther Gap.  A while later, along the ridge, the clouds began to clear and I was treated to an amazing view with an undercast.

I camped in the new winter camping area at Wolverton "snow play area" in the park.  Unfortunately the winter camping at Lodgepole campground is no more.  Due to budget constraints they closed Lodgepole for the winter.  Apparently this was due to maintenance costs (and running the heat to maintain the rest room).  The new camping area isn't as nice (it's basically a parking lot) but it's better than the place being shut down completely.

This was from a little day hike this weekend on the Horton Creek Trail outside of Bishop, CA.

Horton-Creek-full.jpg

and it also involved snow camping!!!  Yes, there's snow there!  :-D

But seriously, it was cold ... in the mid-upper teens in the morning.  That's cold based on my camping preferences ...  though as you can see by my hiking shirt above, it warmed up nicely in the sun during the day.

Here's my trusty ole Mtn Hardwear Skyview 1.5 newly refurbished with new door zippers courtesy of Mountain Hardwear.

My old Zip-o-gauge said -4F Sunday AM at 7 but my nose hairs said no.   Here I was a few miles from home again, solo snow camping.  Using my Radius 43 and MSR GK stoves.  The TS stickers don't seem to want to get plastered on classics.

Anywho....It was a great New Years Eve in the swamp.

Took my 'trailspace' sticker on a hike in the high peaks of the Adirondacks...we are missing all the snow we usually have in December!  No snow but lots of ice though:(

I took a couple days off before the high retail season and car camped with my partner at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near Cache, Oklahoma. The weather was beautiful and the scenery even more so on some great day hikes where we saw boulder fields and American bison. I had to take my new Trailspace hat for its maiden outing. Thanks, Trailspace!

So I took on the grueling endeavor of an epic journey to the grocery store.

With the fear of gloom and doom from the hurricane known as Sandy the grocery store can be quite a cantankerous place to successfully navigate.

My journey begins in the aisle known as the infamous "numero 13":

image.jpg

As you can see in the photo above I am quite optimistic and enthusiastic to be partaking on such an epic endeavor of this magnitude.

At the midway point(the grueling "aisle of soup") you can see that the terrain and obstacles(shopping carts) are beginning to take their toll on me by my facial expression(diminishing smile:)

image.jpg

And finally I summit the "frozen food aisle." Thank goodness I had my base layers on. Man was it cold.

image.jpg

I cannot believe that I was successful in accomplishing such a monumental feat of this magnitude.

I would like to thank my sponsor(my wife Tracey.) Without her none of this would have been possible.

Happy hiking. :p

I recently received a suggestion that a TS sticker would look great on my hard hat...

I thought why stop at 1? (both sides look the same)

My wife and I got out for a short little hike on the Sierra Discovery Trail.  There's about a foot of snow covering most of it, and soon it'll be time for the snowshoes!!  Whoo-hoo, can't wait!!
