Lonesome Lake Huts

For the long veteran's day weekend I'll be taking my nine year old and I will be spending two nights in the Lonesome Lake Huts in the White mountains.  My original plan was to take Basin-Cascade trail toward the huts.  Reading the AMC guide trail description it talks about a stream crossing with a missing bridge near the intersection with the Cascade trail.

Does any one know if this is easily fordable without getting wet or should I take the more direct Lonesome Lake trail?
