Visitng NPs can be great for first time visitors and people from outside the area.  Because of the volume of visitors, they tend to have more regulations than any other places used for outdoor recreation.  I would encourage people to consider the not so famous places like those adjacent to NPs with a lot less use.  Dispersed outdoor recreation, backcountry use, call it what you will, but it is not compatible with lots of people, permits, fire regulations, pets on a leash, and waiting in line.
