I guess they make apps for almost anywhere? Curious are iphone apps only usable on a iphone or can I use them on my laptop?

iPhone Apps are usable on most iOS (Apple) devices. Generally, they are not usable on other devices. However, there are versions of many of the Apps that are available on other devices, though they usually differ in some significant ways.

For topo maps, you might look at AllTrails. They cost, but have several different plans that might be within your range.

I use www.mapcard.com and pay $29.95 a year and can view and download topo maps from 1/200,000 to 1/6,000 scale plus Java tools to label and draw lines and aerial views.

I was just curious.
