Okay friends, I'm going to Brainerd, MN on the first day of Spring on business. I will first be in Minneapolis. I want to get in a good 1/2 snowshoe trek somewhere in the area, and Crow Wing State Park, en route to Brainerd, looks like a good place. I may even forego the hotel room and camp one night in my Shangri-La 2 and subzero bag. Any suggestions on a better spot or tips for that particular State Park?

Xterro,
In winter, the selection of an area to go to is much less important than the going. You will be likely to have the place to yourself. Even two miles from the road you will pass thru the "gateway to peace and utter freedom." Those are the words of Col Townsend Whelen.

No truer words were spoken, PPine! It was indeed peaceful and majestic. I saw not a soul in Crow Wing SP or the trails of the Northland Arboraetum.
