Weekend fishing trip in AR?

Some friends and I are looking to do a weekend outing, and we'd like to fish while we're out. I have to admit, none of us are very experienced anglers. We've all been before, but we're not sure what type of fishing we should do. I think we'd like to try something fairly easy, so as to not bruise our self-esteem. What I'm looking for are places where beginner-intermediate fishers can go and have a fairly good chance of catching fish. Also, suggestions as to what kind of fish we should try to catch would be greatly appreciated.

There are tons of places to go for a good weekend of fishing, but I have a few questions to help clarify.

When are you wanting to go?
Do you want to float and fish or just fish?
Where are you located and what area of the state are you wanting to visit?

We are looking to go in middle to late April, and we're planning to go backpacking and fishing, so probably just fish as we walk along the bank. Also, we are in Searcy, and we're just wanting to get away, so anywhere that's reasonable for a weekend trip would be great.

Check out the Eagle Rock Loop trail in the Ouachita National Forest. It is a 27 mile loop, and lots of the trail runs right along the Little Missouri River. There are a lot of wet crossings, so that could be a problem if the area gets much rain. It is fun to fish, but you will mainly catch small smallmouth and bream. You should not rely on fishing to feed yourselves if you go there.

Another alternative would be to look into trails along the Buffalo River.

Oh, we plan on taking other food with us. Let's just say we don't exactly have a lot of faith in our fishing skills. We'd just like to be able to try, and maybe eat some if we do catch any.
