After 32 hours of travelling, I am finally in Punta Arenas, sorting gear for the jump over to the ice of Antarctica. Some good views from the plane. But it is really windy, which will delay the flight to the ice. Some people here have been waiting 10 days to get the flight.  More later.

So you are going for the South Pole Bill? By yourself? How far are you planning to go? Ski touring like in your profile image. Once on the continent/ice shelf I guess you will be out of contact for a while/duration of your trip?

Good Luck, I am sure all of us at Trailspace are hoping you the nest.

Gary

Bill S I need you to do me a favor if you would be so inclined. Open my website www.gamersnews.com from Antarctica! I need to get a hit or two from there so it will show up on my website. Thanks a million if you get a chance. I have always wanted to see Antarctica in person.

Good luck, Bill!

For those wondering, Bill is headed for Vinson, Antarctica's highest peak.

You can read about his 2006-07 trip here.

Antarctica does not have internet cafes, so no Trailspace posts from there.

Alicia, the big group that ha been stalled is the marathon group. They are scheduled (more or less) to ru a marathon down there - this is becoming a regular event. Harder folks than I am by far.

Wind almost blew me off my feet several times on the way to and from the logistics office today. Hopefully, we will get off on time. <<<<<<the gear is together and waiting for takeoff.

If you're looking for Santa, you went the wrong way Bill!

On a serious note, I can't wait to hear the trip report.

I thinks it's Atnas that lives down there. Or is it Antsanta?

For us northern hemispherians, Santa lives at the north pole. Maybe there's a  Santa at the south pole for southern hemispherians? :)

Anyway, good luck to The OGBO, I was wondering where he was, not seeing any posts from him in a while...  after a while we get used to the "regulars" posting here, and something seems amiss when they don't :)
