Lalashan is a popular national forest in the mountains south of Taipei. The area is comprised of a mixture of two-thousand year old primeval cypress and rare Taiwan Beech. The trail from the ancient tree park to the summit of Lalashan is just one of several engagng hikes along the Northern Cross-Island Highway.

A few more from the same trip:
This is just short of the top where the beeches meet arrow bamboo.

Cypress along the trail.

Distant view of Lalashan's "spirit trees". It's about a two hour walk from here to the summit marker.

Nice spot for coffee! You seem to know a lot about the flora--specifically, the trees--of the area...Forester?

Not a forester, just a frequent visitor. In fact, I'm heading back up there in a few minutes!
