Darn Tough Merino Micro Crew Sock Cushion

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The difference between fresh caught shrimp from the ocean and popcorn shrimp at a fast food joint. I recently got turned on to Darn Tough socks and I have zero hesitation in saying I will never buy another brand again. Putting these on for the first time was as if the master sock artist, Leonardo DaSockio, had painted them on my feet. Not only was there absolutely zero bunching on the trail, but my feet stayed dry (very unusual for me), they provided the perfect amount of cushion and I didn't need… Full review

Injinji Trail 2.0 Midweight Mini-Crew

rated 4.5 of 5 stars These socks are great for hiking! I love these socks! They fit perfectly and really do help prevent blisters. I got some terrible blisters on my toes and the balls of my feet on a 20-mile backpacking trip early this summer and subsequently bought these socks. I did the same hike last weekend and I did not re-blister my feet even though I was carrying even more weight this time! The socks are comfortable, moisture-wicking, and stretchy. They have a tighter, stretchy area in the middle that really… Full review

SmartWool Men's Hiking Ultra Light Mini

rated 4 of 5 stars After dismissing this sock as sub-par, I have a new found appreciation of them. They are not a great hiking sock, but they are pretty decent for running and cycling. I have own this sock for more than a year. On my first backpacking trip with it, I wrote it off as a bad purchase. The reason for this was the low cut did not work well with a light hiker (like my Merrell Moab Ventilator pictured here). Shortly into a hike, especially in wet conditions, the top of the sock is below the back of the shoe,… Full review

Outdoor Research Sparkplug Gaiters

rated 4 of 5 stars Lightweight, super breathable, minimalist gaiters that keep your feet and socks in good condition. Function: The Outdoor Research Spark Plug Gaiters are minimalist gaiters that prevent debris from entering your shoe. This means less emptying out of shoes, longer usage out of your socks, and happy hiking or running.    Sizing:  I have a size L/XL gaiter, over my EU46, JP29.5, US11.5 sized Salomon X Ultra Mids. I think the fit is perfect. I can reach all the way to the front most lace with the… Full review

Black Diamond Soloist Lobster Glove

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Good glove/mitt hybrid that is a great base for a waterproof winter glove layering system. Use: The Black Diamond Lobster is a cross between a glove and a mitt, and is a great base for a waterproof winter glove layering system. The lobster design is warmer than a glove, but gives you more dexterity than a mitt. It has a thumb and index finger, and a separate section for the rest of the fingers. When it is cold, I can fit my index finger into the mitt section for possible extra warmth. When… Full review

Sea to Summit Alpine Gaiters

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Solid and easy to use knee height eVent gaiters. Fit: I wear these in combination with a size 46/11.5 pair of The North Face Verto S6K Glacier GTX mountaineering boots. The XL fits fine. The main calf area is eVent, with a stronger material on the bottom parts, and an extra 500D fabric reinforced area on the most critical area on the inside around your foot. They're really easy to put on/off thanks to the huge velcro on the front. This is great of course, because I wouldn't want to go through… Full review

Outdoor Research Ultra Trail Gaiters

rated 2.5 of 5 stars Go either heavier or lighter. For me these gaiters did't work so well and I think there are better alternatives out there. To be honest I haven't used these as much as other gear that I review. This is partly due to their fit. I wear 46 (US 11.5) and got these in a large. I could put these on no problem (removing shoes first of course). The top of the ankle 'sock' has a small elastic drawstring. I would say that I have quite thin ankles with low body fat and the elastic is already tight. When… Full review

Trailspace Trail Runner Cap

rated 5 of 5 stars Who doesn't want to look fly, feel cool, and represent Trailspace? It's a comfortable, lightweight, and well-fitting hat that drys quickly and wicks sweat very well. Got this awesome hat from Trailspace. I've owned some type of running hat for the last 10 years. This one is by far my favorite. With a sweet TS logo on the front and "trailspace.com" on the back, it's actually a Headsweats brand hat, so you can find it in the store...though you may not look as sharp!   It is very lightweight and is… Full review

Dorfman Pacific MC50 Fishing Hat with Removable Sunshield

rated 2 of 5 stars Like most hats, this one keeps the sun off your face. The bonus here is that it also keeps the sun off you neck with the attachable sunshield. However, the velcro sunshield is prone to detach and is far from stylish. This is an inexpensive hat that I bought at a large sporting goods store because I wanted to keep the sun off my face and neck in the summer months without having to wear something around my neck, like my Original Buff or a bandana.  The hat's adjustability is generous. I have a larger… Full review
