Recent Alcohol Stove Reviews

Trail Designs Sidewinder Ti-Tri

rated 5 of 5 stars This stove can burn ESBIT tabs, alcohol (12-10 alky stove included) and wood with the optional Inferno kit. The ti sheet metal construction is excellent. The Gram Cracker ESBIT tab holder and cone give THE best efficiency of any ESBIT stove. The Inferno insert makes the stove a highly efficient and HOT "gassifier" wood burner that rivals the Bush Buddy. Stove is very light and compact when rolled up for storage. The Sidewinder Caldera Cone stove has several differences from the original aluminum Caldera… Full review

White Box Stove

rated 5 of 5 stars Incredible "Bug Out" stove for day, weekend, and extended excursions. Reduce your pack weight, increase reliability (no moving parts), bomb proof, quiet, and "GREEN". PLUS, it's made from recycled beer bottles — what's not to like about this product! When I first saw a friend's White Box Stove (WBS) during a 7-day fly-fishing expedition, I literally laughed out loud. How could a small recycled beer bottle outperform my Coleman multi-fuel single burner backpacking stove? The White Box looked more… Full review

Trangia 27-8 UL/HA

rated 5 of 5 stars Such a great stove for everything...except high altitude mountaineering. I'm an "Outdoor Professional" having worked as an Outward Bound instructor, Park Service Backcountry Ranger, and program logistician since 1985. I've been using the Trangia Stove System as my only backpacking and expedition sea kayaking now for more than six years. In other words, this is not a "I just unpacked the product and it rocks!" type of review.Pros: Very easy to use. No pumping, no toxic fuel spills, no clogging The… Full review

Esbit Alchohol Burner

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Works well and very packable. Purchased this to put in an emergency car/hiking kit to be used with equipment I already have. Works very well and compliments the items I already own. The best thing is the O-ring seal. Not having to empty the fuel out if you don't use it all is a real advantage. I have used this several days in a row on short hikes to become familer with it. Performs well heating soup and coffee. Full review

Evernew Appalachian Set

rated 5 of 5 stars The Appalachian stove's versatility makes Evernew's stove a necessity in the backcountry, a leader in the industry and a must-have in your backpack! Evernew's "Ti DX Set w/Stove" (combination stove/flame diffuser/windscreen) was an enthusiastic find! Discussion of Evernew's "Appalachian" set begins below. While performing an internet search several years ago for alcohol stoves I came across this stove sometime before it was commercially available in the USA. This was the same time I became interested… Full review

Trail Designs Caldera Cone System

rated 4 of 5 stars Look for the model that allows the windscreen to be used with a wood fire. Burn wood in the aluminum model and the sides will melt. On a 10-day hike I found the titanium Snow Peak stove with a canister weighs less than 10 days worth of alcohol. I have used esbit, alcohol, and wood, but the most convenient and easiest to get going is the canister stove. As far as alcohol stoves go (I have a least a dozen homemade jobs) the Caldera Stove system works very well, just be sure to get the right size for… Full review

Trail Designs Caldera Cone System

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a lightweight 12-10 alcohol stove with a custom-made cone-shaped aluminum windscreen that serves as a pot stand for your specific cooking pot. Along with a fuel bottle and a Nyquil-like measuring device, the system is all packed into a plastic caddy for easy storage and transportation About 2 years ago, I made the switch to an alcohol stove – for several reasons:  1) wanted to reduce my base weight; 2) tired of gas canisters; 3) my old canister stove was in need of replacement; 4) I saw… Full review

Trangia 27-3 UL

rated 4 of 5 stars To summarize, this is a great stove if you like simple and ultra-reliable things, like to eat well no matter the weather, and maybe don’t mind a little extra weight of stove and fuel. The Swedish made Trangia 27-3 “ultralight” is a true classic and one of the very best cook kits on the market. This kit consists of the wonderful brass Trangia alcohol burner with simmer and storage caps, an elaborate two part stand / windscreen, two decent sized lightweight aluminum pots, a non-stick aluminum… Full review

Brasslite Turbo II-D

rated 5 of 5 stars This stove is lovely, and it works. Small and light, simple, effective, beautifully crafted. I like alcohol stoves because I don't have to deal with nastier fuels like white gas, and there isn't the waste of the compressed gas canisters. Plus, stove and pots don't come away coated with soot. Great small stove for one or two people. This stove is lovely, and it works. It's small and light, simple, effective, and beautifully crafted. I like alcohol stoves because I don't have to deal with nastier… Full review
