User Review: Alpina Mount
Rating: ![]()
Materials: Leather with waterproof lining
Use: backpack/scrambles/light mountaineering
Break-in Period: half dozen trips
Weight: approx 4 lbs
Price Paid: $160 US
This boot has some good features. Break-in was relatively painless, only one small blister. The toe is covered with rubber if you have to kick steps up a snow slope. Vibram sole is very good on all types of terrain wet and dry. The sole is quite stiff as it is crampon compatible. My previous boots were Vasque Superhikers.
Unfortunately until they fix a design problem with the boot I would not recommend you purchase it. The boot has a seam just above the ankle and after only two seasons (hiking and scrambling) the seam has split on both boots. I've taken it in for repair and they are going to sew right through the inner liner in order to fix, just too expensive to fix any other way. The boot should have been made out of one-piece leather with no seams.
Great boot until then. Sorry, Alpina, you need to fix your design.
