The Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR is a solid jacket. Just like most of their products, it is fashionable and comfortable but expensive. The style fits for the city crawler as well as for the heavy outdoor mountain bear.  The color choices are pretty cool and vary from heavily bright to all sorts of dark.

What actually attracted me to this jacket is the stow hood, hand pockets and the chin zipper on the right side instead of right on the chin: it always bothered me to have a freezing cold zipper and a pressure point on my chin.  This fixes the problem considerably.

My only problem with this system is that the material (flap??) under the front zipper is pointing left, so every time you turn your head to the right, the right side of your chin always pushes against it and it bends, so head rotation is not comfortable on the right side.... (That's why I couldn't give a 5 stars to this jacket... unfortunately).

Other great features are:

  • The snow blocking skirt around your waist with snap closure (even if your jacket is completely unzipped, the snapped skirt act like an inside belt and keeps the jacket from opening up).
  • A single front pocket and two side hand pockets on the outside.  A laminated small left pocket and one normal pocket on the right side.
  • The usual two ways pit zippers.

All zippers are laminated and the three external pockets have a respective zipper "garage".  If you have the money, this jacket is great.
