AceVolt Campower 2000

The AceVolt Campower 2000 is a powerful generator that can be used to charge your electronics while you’re off the grid. Cost: $1,699 Weight: 48.5 pounds Volts: 100-120 Campower 2000 Staying self-sufficient while you’re camping or on the road can be really challenging. You might be able to charge your phone while you’re driving, or mooch off of a nearby cafe for a quick electricity fix. But a small generator is a complete game changer for travelers like me. I’ve been on the road for 5 months. Full review

Renogy 15000mAh Solar Power Bank

Power bank did not demonstrate the capacity advertised, did not charge at all in sun, and failed at critical point in wilderness. When I received it, charge level was indicated as 3 out of 4 LEDs. It did not indicate 4/4 LEDs charge level even after plugged into a wall outlet for an additional 8 hours and a car outlet for 3 hours. During an 8-day summer backpacking trip, it only charged a 3000mAH phone to full once, and then from 12% to 35% three times (removed to save power) before unexpectedly… Full review

Eddie Bauer Solar Power Bank 6000mAh

After 18 months I noticed the cases splitting on all three of these power banks I bought. The Li-ion battery failed and started to swell, causing the cases to crack open. I got these for gifts. It was a waste of money.  Full review

Xiaomi Power Bank 20000 mAh

Very capable (but large and heavy) power bank with two-way QuickCharge support and dual USB output. Nice and simple design, but no case or pouch for carrying. Mostly useful for owners of power-greedy equipment, such as action cameras. Background In my outdoor trips I prefer avoiding the situations when I need a power socket for charging my electronic devices. There are many of them: smartphone, a couple of headlamps, health tracker, GPS navigator, DSLR camera, and every year this number grows. At… Full review

HALO Pocket Power StarLight 3000

I have two of these and one does not charge. The other charged my device for about five minutes and then was dead! GARBAGE! I tried to use it once. Only held charge for 24 hours and could not charge another device. The other must have a bad connection as I could not get it to charge. Full review

Seattle Sports SurviVolts Power Bank

The power bank, 5000 mAh capacity, can recharge a cell phone or power an included set of components useful for lighting or emergency signaling especially. It is compact and portable, although not ultralight. My initial impression is quite favorable. The basic power bank seems to be a 26850 lithium-ion battery with an integral small flashlight, potentially quite useful if you ever need to assemble the other components in the dark. Four blue LEDs indicate the charge status. Other components are: a… Full review

HALO Pocket Power StarLight 3000

The three I have owned all stopped working. There must be a design flaw in these. One of the three was a replacement for the first one that stopped working. Junk. Junk. Full review

Eddie Bauer Solar Power Bank 6000mAh

On our weeklong kayaking trip, this solar charger was the hot commodity. Everyone was looking to borrow this. I don't have much experience with solar chargers yet, but I must admit, this solar charger was working overtime every day for seven days straight, and never skipped a beat.  We had 15 people total in the group and had two solar chargers. The Eddie Bauer was the preferred of the two. It was more consistent and charged faster than the other model.  It has a built-in flashlight. We used the… Full review
