Summary

This tent is small and light.

Pros

  • Very light weight
  • Easy to set up

Cons

  • Tight for two people
  • Newer version has less ventilation

This tent is small and light enough to justify bringing when I'm solo backpacking. While it weighs more than a bivy it is far more comfortable to hang out in when hiding from mosquitos in the Sierra.

It's easy to set up and has a small footprint and is spacious for one person. It is on the tight side for two people so I'd recommend bringing along the vestibule. If you are taller than 6ft it would be very cramped for two people.

The older version had full mesh door, the newer version has just a small bit of mesh at the top. While it might save weight I would prefer more ventilation. It sets up quickly and easily and is very taut. It's held up to a few ferocious windstorms with minimal flapping and shaking.

It's minimal on features but that's how you get a 3lb two person tent. The two small interior mesh pockets are enough for your headlamp and socks. The tent packs down ridiculously small.

To sum up the Hilight I would say that it is a minimal tent for a person who packs light and doesn't want excess features on their gear.
