Here's what other sites are saying:
Designed for ski mountaineers and backcountry skiers who regularly venture into serious terrain, the PIEPS DSP Pro Avalanche Beacon is packed with features. In addition to its massive 60-meter circular range and 55-meter search strip, the DSP Pro features an innovative smart transmitter that recognizes other buried devices and auto-adjusts its signal to aid in more accurate recovery. Throw in a self-check function for always-accurate antennas and Digital Signal Processing to account for wayward beacon signals, and the DSP Pro is as reliable as it is capable. The included harness-style carrying pouch provides comfortable, streamlined storage and fast removal for beacon practice and emergency response.
Three antennas, an extra-large 60-meter circular search range, a mark and scan function, and a smart transmitter for multiple burial scenarios, makes the Pieps DSP Pro avalanche transceiver a top contender when you are selecting this, very important, backcountry tool. Three antennas, plus self-checking reference antenna Smart transmitter adjusts signal to allow for the easiest solution in a multiple burial scenario Circular range for extended, symmetrical search area Mark and scan function for multiple burial scenarios Digital Signal Processor to pick up beacons transmitting drifted signals Integrated inclinometer for easy slope angle assessment Continuous carrier mode for use with older, analog beacons Direction and distance from initial detection Compatible with TX600 mini-transmitter and iProbe for added search capabilities Frequency measurement for extended transceiver check Updateable software via USB (sold separately)
Built for skiers who explore serious terrain, the Pieps DSP Pro avalanche transceiver is packed with features: a 60m range, a high-tech transmitter and a marking function for multiple burials. Three-antenna system pinpoints the location of burials within a 60m range regardless of antenna orientation and burial depth. In a multiple-burial scenario, the unit works to transmit a signal without overlapping other signals. Eliminating signal overlap allows the searcher to quickly interpret the audible and visual information with increased accuracy and less confusion. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology displays the number of buried victims as stick figures on an easy-to-view LCD screen. When signals are detected, the approximate distance and direction to the burials are displayed-simply follow the arrows to reach a burial. Upon locating the position of the first victim, the searcher can mark and mask the found signal and immediately begin searching for other burials; marks up to four signals. Includes an inclinometer so you can accurately measure slope angles, helping you navigate through potential avalanche terrain. Pieps DSP Pro can measure frequency deviation of all transceivers, a great pre-ski tour test to conduct. Scan function quickly gives an overview of all buried devices within the detectable range. Self-check tests all major functions as the transceiver is powering on, including transmitting frequency and operation of antennas, amplifiers, processors and batteries. Adjustable, nylon harness with pouch keeps the unit secure and accessible. Compatible with all transceivers operating on the 457 kHz frequency. Can be used with Pieps iProbe (sold separately); iProbe can temporarily suppress the signal of a transmitting Pieps transceiver to make searching for multiple burials easier.
It's tough to beat the odds--if you spend a significant amount of time in avalanche terrain, the chances are pretty good you'll be involved in a slide, whether as a victim or a rescuer. There's a whole lot you can do to minimize your chances of being caught, and while an avalanche beacon won't prevent accidents, it will increase your chances of being found or finding a victim before it's too late. The Pieps DSP Pro is designed for skiers and snowboarders who spend serious time in relatively high-risk areas and need a beacon that's fast, accurate, and easy to use. The Pro has a simple two-button interface that gives you only the options you need for fast and effective performance--send, search, scan, and flag. Just slide the side switch to toggle between transmitting and receiving and mark burials using the flag button. When you've flagged a signal, the three antennas automatically switch to the nearest unflagged signal for streamlined searching. The Pro has a 60m circular search range and a smart transmitter that, during a burial, automatically switches to the antenna with the clearest broadcasting range, minimizing dead spots and signal traps that can drastically reduce a beacon's effectiveness. It also ensures that its signal isn't overlapping with any other transmitting beacons, minimizing misleading signals and indirect search paths. Designed to keep things simple and efficient, the Pro has a distance readout, a directional arrow, multiple-burial indicators, and a battery-life display, which provide all the necessary information without cluttering the screen. The Sport is also compatible with the Pieps iProbe to reduce search time even further, particularly in a multiple-burial scenario, and has a built-in inclinometer to help you assess slope angle. There are also available software updates to keep your beacon up-to-date, and it will work with older beacons regardless of the software installed. Although beacons are pretty awesome, please remember that they are.
