Mountain House Scrambled Eggs with Bacon

rated 2 of 5 stars They're dried eggs! They serve the purpose of nutrition. Life can be iffy. These meals are the Iffy busters. I bought this single serving Mountain House Freeze Dried Scrambled Eggs with Bacon while browsing in my local Walmart, down the camping aisle. Since I was going to be taking a trip up to the mountains, I thought it would be nice to try. I'm not a big fan of powdered eggs and some freeze dried meals, this was my opportunity to sample the eggs with bacon. Not Bad. Great for camping or emergencies. Full review

Backpacker's Pantry Organic Peanut Butter & Raisin Oatmeal

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a great backpacking meal that is quick to prepare, high in essential calories, and tastes great! I bought this for a recent backpacking/canoe trip that I was going on. It was very easy to prepare and tasted great. I especially like that you don't need another bowl to prepare this meal. Just heat up water to a boil and then add it to the pouch. It filled me up and gave me plenty of energy to finish my canoe trip (10+ miles). It comes with a pouch of peanuts that you are supposed to crush… Full review

HawK VittleS Hash Browns with Eggs, Sausage, and Cheese

rated 4 of 5 stars A simple, light, and filling breakfast for a reasonable price. The meal comes in a heat sealed package that you only have to cut the top off and add hot water until the contents are submerged. Stir and let sit for 20 minutes to rehydrate. The meal consists of 50¢ size slices of potatoes in a sauce of egg, sausage and parmesan cheese. The meal rehydrates well and there are no crunchy bits if you mix well. The meal was fine, very filling, but bland. I wish I brought a bottle of hot sauce or a little… Full review

OvaEasy Whole Egg Crystals

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Surprisingly simple and quite tasty. This was the first time I cooked these up while backpacking. I tried them at home first and I must say that my trail results were no different. These cook up quite well and have a good egg flavor. There's nothing difficult about it...add water and then cook. I have Southern roots and so I pair this with some grits and find that I am well satiated for the morning. Full review

Backpacker's Pantry Huevos Rancheros

rated 2 of 5 stars A good idea for a "change of pace" kind of backpack breakfast but rather poorly executed by Backpacker's Pantry. I would have trouble recommending this to anyone unless they really wanted some kind of alternative to plain dried eggs. Saw this at a Menard's for $4 per pouch. How bad could it be? I tested it at home in a 11" non-stick skillet so I could see what it looked like while rehydrating and cooking. The instructions say to add 1 and 1/4 cup of water, doesn't say what temperature the water… Full review

Mountain House Granola with Blueberries & Milk

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Took this breakfast on a week-long canoe trip. Was so impressed I immediately decided that Mountain House meals are the way to go for lightweight camping! While on a week-long canoe trip this spring instead of cooking all of my food I decided instead to pack Mountain House meals along with some other freeze dried and dehydrated meals. This allowed me to travel so much lighter I have decided there's no way I will EVER go back to the old way for that trip!!! This particular breakfast was surprisingly… Full review

AlpineAire Foods Blueberry Honey Granola

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great instant cereal with milk breakfast. This is a great cereal breakfast that serves up quickly. Add hot or cold water and let stand 10 minutes and you have a sweet, healthy energy packed breakfast.  I used cold water.  The dried milk actually re-hydrated nicely and tasted pretty much like milk.  I was impressed. There are nice juicy blueberries, nuts, honey and grains in this cereal and it is actually something I would eat on the regular.   I would highly recommend trying this out if you… Full review

Backpacker's Pantry Huevos Rancheros

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Freeze dried vomit. I tried this out when I camping recently. So glad I had a little extra food hanging around after trying to eat this. It was way too salty, it was grainy. Usually with Backcountry Pantry I find that you need to avoid putting the recommended amount of water or they end up too soupy. So I put not quite enough it. It tasted awful. Extremely salty, horrendously grainy and sweet. It tasted much like bile. It was dreadful. More water didn't help. With gorillas I can imagine this being… Full review

OvaEasy Whole Egg Crystals

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Often, dehydrated eggs are nasty. I found that OvaEasy eggs are quite tasty, easy to use, and stable. I have found them to have great bang for the buck in price, ease of use, and flavor. I have tried other eggs before, and while other products are pretty good, I think this one is the best. I found it tastes and behaves most like real eggs of all the kinds I have tried. Since the eggs are crystals versus powder, the product cooks up more like real scrambled eggs. The caveat is that these eggs are… Full review
