as someone that does most of their hiking with the boy scouts, my needs are a little different than most people. i tend to do shorter hikes, with more standing around.
when i put these on, i thought that they were amazing. so amazing that i took them on a 5 mile hike (w/ full packs, packed for 2 nite canoe trip) the next weekend. did nothing to break them in. i'd tell anyone that they could do the same thing.
sueded leather with gore-tex. yep this works very well, as that i stood in 3-4" deep water with no leaks. the sole is stiff with a nice rocker, made it easy to hike where we went. as stated before the insole is a combination foam and cork. molded to my foot in about 30 minutes. there is memory foam between the lining and outer leather as well, this way they mold to your ankles and heel. a great touch
the only downside is you have to order them thru the cabelas catalog, they don't stock them in any store. but sizing is very true.

I was a little leery of buying a "store branded boot", but these are made by Meindl in Germany, so I figured it couldn't be too bad. The boot is lined with Gore-tex and a thin layer of temperature sensitive "memory foam" that molds around your heel and ankle, forming to the exact shape of your foot for a "perfekt" fit.
These boots are a little on the heavy side compared to others, but they're rock solid and stable. The Kevlar-carbon outsole is extremely supportive and the fit is really is amazing. Meindl incorporates a multi-density cork and foam footbed that also molds to your foot and helps wick away perspiration. The proprietary sole is great, and doesn't hold mud or debris for very long. Through big rocks, kicking along a stream bank and washouts, I never lost footing. These babies ROCK!
The price is what kept me from giving a full 5 star rating. At $189.95, they aren't cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but then either is anything this luxurious.
